Week 2- Policy, Curriculum, and Educational Technology

The inclusion of digital literacy within the Australian Curriculum has been transformative for learners as it prepares students for life beyond school. Students have gained and will continue to develop vital skills in digital safety, privacy, research, and communication since digital literacy has been embedded into the curriculum as a general capability, alongside literacy, numeracy and critical thinking. Students learn how to manage and protect their digital footprint, effectively research, present data and information ethically, and adapt to evolving technologies. Newhouse (2013) suggests that digital competences further assist students’ abilities to work collaboratively due to modern technologies increasing accessibility.  This skill is vital when considering students future job prospects and ability to work in a modern and dynamic workforce. The curriculum ensures students are not only digitally competent but also adaptable and responsible in a tech-driven society (Selwyn 2021).
