Week 4- Collaboration and Technology

The food technology lesson requires students to collaboratively research in small groups a dietary related disorder. Students will research key components of the disorder individually like it’s causes, at risk groups, good food sources to prevent the illness as well as a detailed meal plan for someone with the illness or disorder. All research and findings will be presented in a group slide show with students visually and verbally discussing their learning and individual contributions. The task allows students to dedicate time to their individual components while achieving a shared goal and collective presentation. Students are guided through this process by crafting a plan where all peers have a significant role, and their strengths can be showcased. Including this planning stage in the lesson allows students to apply their problem solving and critical thinking skills. Digital tools like google slides allow for real-time communication and logical task management as students have the ability to contribute to the assignment at a rate they find suitable (Smith, B, L. MacGregor, J, T. 1992).
